String Art Heart

String Art has been around a really long time, but it seems like one of those forgotten retro crafts.  I just love it, and had to try it!  This super simple heart design was an easy way for me to try it out.  Using a plain white canvas for my design seemed like a simple solution for a graphic background.  I wanted it for my bedroom, so I thought a heart was a nice idea.  Plus, it played into my "simple" graphic theme.  Here's how I did it:

String Art Heart - supplies

All you need for you string art is a stretched canvas, heart pattern, upholstery needle, yarn, scissors and a pencil.

String Art Heart - draw heart

Working on the back side of the canvas, draw around your heart pattern with pencil.  This will be your guide as you punch through the canvas and create your design.

String Art Heart - step1Beginning at the bottom of the heart, thread black yarn from the back of the canvas and up to the top right of the heart. Continue to thread yarn back and forth 7 times.

String Art Heart - step2Change to red yarn, and begin threading yarn from the bottom of the heart and up to the top left of the heart. Continue to thread yarn back and forth 4 times.

String Art Heart - step3Thread red yarn from the bottom point of the heart back and forth along the top left side of the heart.  Thread black yarn from the bottom point of the heart back and forth along the top right side of the heart.

String Art Heart - knotted back

Knot the loose ends of the yarn on the back of the canvas.

String Art Heart - done

That's all there is to it!  I love how it turned out, and it looks really nice in the bedroom.  You could add a frame if you like.  But, I really like the artsy feel without the frame.  Yay, I did it!  My first string art : -)
